Janelle Sperry is a Past President of the West Virginia PTA and has served on the organization’s Board of Managers for the past 15 years. During her service on the state board, she has held numerous other leadership positions including Vice President-Bylaws, Vice President–Membership, At-Large Member, Regional Director, Scholarship Chairperson and Lead for the College and Career Readiness Initiative. She currently serves as the Federal Legislative and Reflections Chair, and is the President of the Berkeley County Council PTA.

In 2012, Janelle was named a “White House Champion of Change” by the President of the United States for her dedication to children and in 2019 was awarded the National PTA Shirley Igo Advocate of the Year Award.   For her work in helping pass West Virginia’s cyberbullying legislation known as “Grace’s Law,” National PTA recognized her as “Advocate of the Month”.  She has also received both the West Virginia PTA Life Membership pin and the National PTA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Professionally, Janelle earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Shepherd University and has worked in the mortgage industry for more than 30 years. She currently serves as an underwriting manager with ALCOVA Mortgage.

Janelle and her husband, Will, have been married for 30 years. They reside in Bunker Hill, and their daughter, Elizabeth is a graduate of West Virginia University.
